Bell Yard, Chancery Lane, London

Bell Yard, Chancery Lane, London
Referred to by Dickens in Bleak House as a "narrow lane", which it it still is. Many of the secondary characters in Bleak House lived here in fact, including Mr Gridley and the Neckett children and their heart rending efforts to avoid the workhouse after the death of their father.

The Royal Courts sit behind the fence and so this lane is now mostly lawyers and law publishers

(I'm enjoying the work of Jean-Michel Berts at the moment. He shoots b&w in the blue hour, taking advantage of building and street lights to emphasise contrast and to also take advantage of the emptiness of the city at the weekends in these periods)

Linuxica Jenesis, Gooner67, elinor04 (Nóra Mészöly), Kathleen Thorpe-BUSY and 8 other people have particularly liked this photo

The B&W and your careful framing...plus the absence of modern people...makes me expect to see the Dickensian cast assembled there. It might be a bit too clean for that, though! ;-)

great story telling that I enjoy with your pictures!

I too like Jean-Michel Berts - he is creating wonderful art with his style of post-processing. And he also achieved some videos with the same creative style.

On the table in front of me is Michael Kenna's book - Images of the Seventh Day ... if you get the chance you should have a look to this, too...
