Borough Pumping Station - 26 February 2015
I went to McLean Park, Napier out of interest in cricket grounds. It stages test cricket and rugby union. Access was not really possible on my visit (at least from Morris Street) but an unexpected joy within the ground was a magnificent piece of 1930s architecture in the form of the Borough Pumping Station. This was actually the best view I could get but the whole building was a delight.

Where Am I Now? (2) - 23 February 2015

Another picture which was taken as a reference shot makes it into my short, occasional series of street signs. The compositions from my New Zealand holiday just appealed to me. This is in Devonport, a short ferry ride from Auckland, a place for a quiet walk away from the bustle of the city.

Auckland Skyline (2) - 23 February 2015

Amongst the many new towers of Auckland, which themselves are mostly not unattractive, stand some fine pieces of architecture. One of the finest is the Ferry Building on Quay Street. Also in the shot are some of the many ferries which keep the modern low-rise terminal very busy.

The Ferry Building on Quay Street is one of Auckland's most distinctive and provides a welcome contrast to the mostly modern structures nearby.

The Cloud (1) - 23 February 2015
The Cloud, an event venue on Queen's Wharf, Auckland, was originally built for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. Its construction was, reportedly, controversial and, although striking, I am not sure that I actually like it. It seemed underutilised (it is/was intended to be temporary) and it is rather annoyingly lit at night.

Auckland Skyline (3) - 23 February 2015

Before we went to New Zealand, I did not know what to expect and wondered whether our four day stay in Auckland - primarily to adjust to the time difference - would be worthwhile. It was. Auckland is a lively and attractive city and we enjoyed every minute. This view features three distinctive buildings, the Ferry Building (centre), The Cloud (foreground, right) and Sky Tower.

Austin 1100 Encounter - 23 February 2015
My otherwise heartwarming encounter with Austin 1100 GL9540 in Devonport, New Zealand reminded me that cars used to come in what today would be rather unlikely colours.
