To close this series, I have chosen a juxtaposition of weapon and commander as the statue of Montgomery regards a 3.7 inch anti-aircraft gun at the D-Day Museum, Portsmouth.

With a long history behind it, the Fort Southwick of today is a rather unprepossessing building which provides park & ride facilities for the not-very-nearby Queen Alexandra Hospital. 70 years ago it housed a tunnel complex in which was situated the combined operations headquarters for Operation Overlord (D-Day).

This restored 22cm gun emplacement in the south west of Guernsey features a part original/part replica K532(f) gun. Originally (December 1941) operational as HKB471 Batterie Pleinmont, the emplacement was renamed in 1944 as Batterie Generaloberst Dollman.
