Farewell to Flybe (5M) - 8 March 2020
On Thursday 5 March 2020, Flybe became the latest airline to cease operations in difficult circumstances probably exacerbated by the affects of coronavirus.
On the following Sunday I made a sad pilgrimage to Southampton Airport, one of the worst affected as Flybe had accounted for 90% or more of its movements. Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 G-ECOM was one of six Flybe aircraft grounded there each with a vehicle blocking a very improbable escape attempt. Also in the shot is G-ECOH.
I wanted a b&w treatment of this shot as it seems to me to reinforce the sense of gloom emanating in particular from the impassive eye of the camera.
