Handley Page Halifax A Mk.VII NA337

National Air Force Museum of Canada | Musée National de la Force Aérienne du Canada, an excellent museum at Trenton, Ontario.

The Halifax is a very special exhibit not least because the type has not, in my opinion, achieved the recognition it deserves. According to Wikipedia, of 6176 built only three complete aircraft survive. NA337 flew until the last days of WWII. On 23 April 1945, it was sent on a supply mission to Mikkelsberget in Norway. At 0131 on 24 April it was hit by flak and had to ditch in Lake Mjøsa. The crew died of hypothermia except for tail gunner Thomas Weightman who lived until 2007.

NA337 was found in the lake in 1991 and subsequently raised and restored in a project culminating in 2005.
