This 1981 Morris Marina Van DGB706 on Marine Parade, Napier was, I thought, a pretty rare sight. I do not recall this variant in the UK.

They were available I believe in the UK, but are as you say extremely rare ... especially these days. I've only seen a handful in the last few years that I can remember and they were all at shows, like this one:
