Electrical History (1) - 23 January 2015

Recently, my eye was caught by this old electrical cabinet at the junction of Hulbert Road and Queens Annes Drive in Bedhampton. I waited for my photograph until the lighting was right to show it to good effect. The very worn exterior is strangely attractive and bears a cast shield with the City of Portsmouth crest and the inscription 'City of Portsmouth Electricity Undertaking' from which it should be possible to date it. The cabinet stands next to a more modern version and its present day ownership is indicated by the yellow plate attached by Scottish and Southern Energy.
