Around Leicester (17) - 14 July 2014
This is the kind of architectural gem which makes ones heart beat faster. Standing on the east side of extensive wasteland between All Saints Road and Jarvis Street and marking the now truncated Alexander Street is this delightful pumping station. I got the impression that much of Leicester's wasteland has long been in that condition and, although that is not unique to that city, it does spoil it. Development is often hindered by argument and economic changes and can mean the demise of buildings like this. However, I understand that this does not belong to the prospective developers but to the owners of the properties, under the railway arches in Jarvis Street. The pumping station is featured earlier in my photostream but this is, in fact, the first view I had as I explored the streets of Leicester. In the background is part of the viaduct of the former Great Central Railway.
