diese wunderschönen Blüten hast du sehr gut hervorgehoben - das Bild gefällt mir außerordentlich, obwohl mein Blick eher selten auf Blumen und Pflanzen fällt....

Das war gar nicht schwierig, denn die haben sich von ganz allein in szene gesetzt, eitel wie sie sind ;-)

Wenn blumen und pflanzen da sind, dann fällt mein blick auch darauf...man könnte sagen, ich sehe alles ;-))

prachtvolle Blüten, die ich noch nie gesehen habe

Gesehen habe ich sie zwar schon öfters, aber ich musste auch erst nachschauen, was es für welche sind. Leider war ich vorher immer zu faul dazu ;-) Und anscheinend zählen sie zu den Hartriegeln und diese hier könnten Blütenhartriegel (Cornus florida) sein, ursprünglich aus dem östlichen Nordamerika. Aber hier in unserer gegend wächst und gedeiht ja auch so allerlei Exotisches :-)

Genau, die habe ich vor kurzem im Ruihrpott gesehen und meine botanisch bewanderte Schwester identifizierte sie als Blumen-Hartriegel....Mir war das auch neu-)

Aber jetzt wissen wir es! Und werden es auch nicht mehr vergessen :-))

I'm happy you like them, Judite. I found out that they're Cornus florida from the eastern part of North America. I wonder if they grow in Portugal as well?

Isn't springtime just wonderfully cheerful? :-) I'm happy you like my photos of Cornus florida (that's what they are, I guess, if I interpreted Wikipedia correctly). I was amazed to see such large exotic blossoms, a totally unexpected encounter. Walks can be full of surprises :-)

Sowas gibt's bei euch nicht, nur hier in unserer exotischen gegend ;-)
Das sind amerikanische blumen-hartriegel, auch blüten-hartriegel genannt (Cornus florida). Sagt Wikipedia und ich glaube es auf's wort.

klar, und ihr malt es rot an und steckt es auf eure Hüte ;-))))

Genau! Und eine rosa version von diesen blüten gibt's bereits, fix und fertig von der natur angemalt, also da kann man sich dann die arbeit sparen ;-))

Oh ja! Aber warum denn in die ferne schweifen? Wie wäre es denn mit dem pferderennen in Iffezheim (ganz in der nähe meiner heimatstadt Rastatt)? Das ist ebenso berühmt und die royal British family war auch schön öfters dort :-) Und natürlich, wie immer, mit ausgefallenen hutkreationen, denn das gehört einfach dazu!

Today is Friday again, but thanks just the same. I looked up the name of these special flowers, and found "dogwood". Why dogwood? Wikipedia says: The common name dogwood comes from one colonial description of the fruit as being edible but not fit for a dog. The common name dogwood is also thought to be from the use of the wood for skewers or “dogs.”

I have no idea, Eva, although the meaning dogwood as wood used for skewers or dogs seems to make more sense at first. But then again...when were those plants named dogwood and when were hot dogs called hot dogs, or rather when did they become popular? Seems to me that it was later, so perhaps the colonial description is correct. In German they're called Hartriegel and this one is a Blüten-Hartriegel (Cornus florida) from the eastern part of North America.
