Well, it only looks old... It was built in 1902 by a Prussian nobleman, Baron Mirbach, who belonged to the entourage of emperor William II. Mirbach, the protestant Prussian baron, thought that his family originally hailed from this catholic village in the Rhineland. And so, he wanted to do the town folks a favour - with the odd result that a protestant Prussian built a catholic church in the Rhineland, and in neo-byzantine style...
