Das Bild war schon auf Panoramio als: "Gotcha!". Es ist kein photographisches Meisterwerk, ich weiß. Ich hätte es auch nicht mehr wieder gezeigt, wenn ich nicht auf StreetView gesehen hätte, dass der Baum mit der Kugel nicht mehr existiert (siehe PiPs).

The picture was already on Panoramio as: "Gotcha!". It's not a photographic masterpiece, I know. I wouldn't have shown it again either if I hadn't seen on StreetView that the tree with the ball doesn't exist anymore (see PiPs).

Es ist nicht so ein Mysterium, wenn man die Reportagen liest. Kurz: die Kugel ist eine entschärfte Brandbombe, an die ein Stift geschmiedet wurde. Mit dem wurde sie als Radabweiser im Boden verankert. Vor etwa 100 Jahren keimte ein Same einer amerikanischen Ulme. Wenn amerikanische Ulmen sich gleich benehmen, wie europäische, wachsen sie in ihrer Jugend rasch dahin und innerhalb weniger Jahre hast schon ein stattliches Bäumlein da stehen. Dumm für den Baum, dass dann Autos, Asphalt und Streusalz erfunden wurden ...

Too old, too ill, too dangerous for the people around. They safed the trunk with the ball, going to make a brass cast. In my opinion it would be better idea to plant a new tree!
