Such a beautiful picture Nick. I love the slight pink shades in the glistening snow. The sky is amazing! So this wasn't part of the HS2 that was cancelled then!
So many changes at the moment....I don't like it!

Ah memories of the way things were. It sounded like a wonderful walk. I have heard how HS2 was cutting things into two but you are the first person I have heard of who it has impacted. Great weather you had here too, it is supposed to be getting colder but no snow forecast yet for this Christmas. Your walks sounds like our two self imposed walks a week into the nearby countryside.

There is a huge impact with special access roads having been built and even its own slip road to and from the M25. As the tunnel progresses northwards then vent shafts are required each on requiring a few acres of land. Tippers are running here and there carrying whatever. Once it is done everything will settle back down and a colony of bats will nest in the tunnel requiring no trains to run in the matting and growing up seasons, and no doubt a natter jack toad or two, finally swampiy's kid will have somewhere dry to sleep

A very nice picture, especially with snow..
It is sad that your walking route has been cut.. This is not supposed to happen, alternatives should be provided.
But, in years to come let us think of all those car journeys, and associated CO2 emissions, which the railway has saved us all from!

It is not easy to provide alternative bridleway and footpath routes when access to the bridge crossing the M25 is closed and the next two routes are under the M25. The amount of land taken at the tunnel head is many acres.

In years to come I'll be pushing up the daisies, but hopefully will live long enough to see the line open and operational to Birmingham at least

A superb Boxing day photo, Nick. I wish we'd have some snow this year. Everything is so drab and miserably grey at the moment, although we've had lots of fun and noisy games with Liz & James to brighten up the festivities. Today we have some very old and dear friends coming for lunch, them Liz and James go home tomorrow - then we can settle in to sloth and idleness and start to read all our Christmas books.

I'm glad to read that your Christmas went well. We had Lucie, Luke and Finn staying for a couple of days, they have now left for Wales, but maybe back to spend New Year's Eve in Gosport.
My kindle has been working overtime.
