Great shot but it sort of gives a little clue as to why they would no longer be possible in much of the country, much as though many would love to see their return!
Best wishes,

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your visit and keen observation here. You are right, we could not tolerate a whole city full of locomotives like this. However, we note in this case that American locomotives never seem to burn their fuel as cleanly as British ones, and that this amount of dirty exhaust is somewhat unusual.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for your visit. You are right, it was cold and overcast, with the odd bits of rain too, hence none of the scenic shots worked well. This is trackside, just outside Cheddleton station, the last of three very different pictures from this departure for Ipstones.

Hi Peter,

A very interesting reply you gave to Andy. I didn't know that, but can certainly see it in this picture.
A super shot all the same.

Best wishes, Rosa.

Hi Rosa,

Thank you so much for your visit here. Certainly the dirty exhaust is a feature here!
Why American locos are worse than British ones, I don't know, but I did find something here..
