"Knight and Day" with Newport Arch ( the remains of a 3rd-century Roman gate ) ~ Lincoln's Knights trail

"Knight and Day" with Newport Arch ( the remains of a 3rd-century Roman gate ) ~ Lincoln's Knights trail
Follow the Lincoln Knights’ Trail - 36 sculptures across Lincoln city centre - to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Battle of Lincoln and the sealing of the Charter of the Forest.

“The Battle of Lincoln, one of the most decisive in English history, meant that England would be ruled by the Angevin, not the Capetian dynasty.”

The launch of the Lincoln Knights' Trail will also take place during a day of events to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Battle of Lincoln 1217 on Saturday, May 20.

On the very day 800 years ago when one of the most important battles in English history took place, the city where the events unfolded will mark the occasion. Lincoln will be recreating history by marking the anniversary of the Battle of Lincoln 1217 and the Sealing of the Charter of the Forest.

Famous Knight William Marshal led an army from Newark to Lincoln to face French invaders and their supporters, who had laid siege to Lincoln Castle, which was under control of custodian Nicholaa de la Haye. Despite being outnumbered Marshal outwitted his enemy and led his forces to victory for Lincoln and England.

As part of the anniversary events, the Lincoln Knights' Trail will launch.

Following on from the success of the Barons' Trail in 2015, 36 full-sized painted knights are waiting to be discovered.
