Old buildings

The famous palace-monastery, seen from the Herreria Woods (mainly holm and Pyrenean oak), with smoke from an autumnal bonfire (appropriate for November 5!) and the slopes of Abantos behind. There is actually quite a substantial town there, more or less hidden by the bulk of this enormous edifice! When Felipe II had it constructed, it must have been the largest building in Europe at that time. He needed a big place to run his Empire from and for hundreds of monks to pray for and with him! Best viewed on max enlargement.

. The Logan Rock pub, Treen (South), West Penwith, Cornwall. A terrific pub in the far west of Cornwall (and there are so many!).

Truro, Cornwall's County town has many attractive corners such as this.

H. A. N. W. E. everyone! The spire of Truro Cathedral can be seen. Victoria Square; normally a busy town centre but, as I was waiting for the bus to take me back to my car at the park and ride, I suddenly noticed that a providential traffic lights arrangement had made the traffic vanish, so I whipped out my ... mobile phone!

Lower Market Street, Penryn. Now a sleepy backwater, Penryn was one of the major market towns of Cornwall in times gone by.
