I bet you had visited Brugge, Gent, Ypres ... Passchendaele battlefield ... and also admired the wonderful masterpieces of flemish painters such as Van Eyck, Memling, Van des Weyden ...
Next time you come to Belgium, Rosa, don't miss Brussels 'Grand Place' !

C'est dans la Halle aux draps qu'a été installé le musée "In Flanders Fields"
C'est le titre d'un célèbre poème écrit en mai 1915 par le major canadien John Mc. Grae, dont je te cite les deux premiers quatrains :

"Between the crosses, row on row,
"That mark our place; and in the sky
"The larks, still bravely singing, fly

"Scarce heard amid the guns be
"We are the Dead. Short days ago
"We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
"Loved and were loved, and now we lie
"In Flanders fields.

In the Middle Age, Ypres was, with Bruges and Gand, one of the most important commercial cities of Flanders. The Sheet Hall in the big Market Place was the storage place of the textiles of Ypres. This building shows the enormous richness of this town in the XIII century.
