J'ai renoncé à présenter la photo prise à l'entrée de la 'Grotte de la Nativité". Un escalier très sombre et très étroit conduit à une toute petite chapelle clôturée par une simple grille. Au-delà, dans un réduit exigu, on a installé un berceau couvert de paille dans lequel est couché un bébé mannequin représentant l'Enfant Jésus, né ici dans le plus grand dénuement.

La ville de Bethléem compte environ 30 000 habitants à majorité musulmane. Elle est théoriquement sous administration de l'Autorité palestinienne
