Prenzlau ist Kreisstadt des nordbrandenburgischen Landkreises Uckermark.
Die Marienkirche (Anfänge datieren aus der Zeit nach 1235) wurde 1289 - 1340 im Stil der Backsteingotik erweitert. Im 14. und. 15. Jh. wurden u.a. die beiden Türme angebaut.
Die Marienkirche ist die Hauptpfarrkirche der Stadt.
