World's Smallest Toilet? (or most narrow?)

08 Jan 2008 22 11 140
Spotted this very narrow comfort facility at the Panama Canal (top of photo). This is used by the workers who are located on the small "islands" between the locks. You can even see the fellow washing his hands near the door. Taken on our cruise of South America in 2008. The "mules" on the tracks in the foreground are used to help center the ships as they transit the canal locks. The tall structure on the very right is part of the fire-fighting equipment of the Canal. Image processed with GIMP.

Welcome (to the Panama Canal) (H.A.N.W.E.,HFF)

10 Jan 2018 28 12 145
On our trip through the Canal in 2018, we saw several changes. One of which included the lawn signs near the Canal entrance. Just One Word, for Sunday Challenge. Image processed with GIMP.

Wires

06 Mar 2018 30 16 143
We always find it fascinating to look up in larger cities. In this case, Manila provided quite the "wired" view. Taken through a bus window, so there are reflections. Image processed with GIMP.

Boat at Bottom of Cable Car, Santorini (HFF)

29 Mar 2016 23 15 186
Visiting Thira (Santorini), we were very impressed. The cable cars go right up the side of the cliff. (Yes, people walk all the way up and down on a pathway, if they want.) There are fences all over the place on this island, including along the cable car pathway. Image processed with GIMP.

Ford Tractor (HFF, H.A.N.W.E.)

27 Jan 2007 29 10 248
Ford tractor at the estancia Fitz Roy in Chile. This is just one of the photos I've posted from this interesting place. You can see the arm of the ocean in the background, that I described in another photo. Also in the background are some of the other many pieces of farm equipment that they had at the estancia. By the way, Ford tractors were usually painted in all-over BLUE, not this interesting two-tone. Image processed with GIMP.

Seawall, Arica Chile (HWW)

18 Jan 2008 21 3 210
Saw all these birds perching on the seawall where our ship stopped in Arica, Chile. Image processed with GIMP.

Parintins Market (HTT, H. A. N. W. E.)

01 Mar 2008 21 7 241
The public market at Parintins, Brazil. It was raining... Anyway, you can see the official, and less official tables in use to show off their wares. Image processed with GIMP.

Long Shadows, Quartzsite

17 Jan 2016 24 8 213
Taken just at sunset in Quartzsite, Arizona. Our motorhome is in the foreground, that of our friends is in the distance. We spent a week, camping with them (and 10's of thousands of others) in this beautiful desert area. Image processed with GIMP.

Steam Tractor (HFF)

27 Jan 2008 29 12 229
Another piece of farm machinery from the Fitz Roy estancia in Chile. In this case, a farm steam engine. Interesting color scheme... Image processed with GIMP.

John Deere

27 Jan 2007 7 2 188
Taken at the Fitz Roy estancia near Punta Arenas, Chile. They have a collection of just about anything, on the grounds, as well as in the barns. This is just one of the tractors on display. (Notice that they have re-painted the tractor, but part of the equipment is still very rusty.) Image processed with GIMP.

Radios

27 Jan 2007 5 1 135
There is a barn at the Fitz Roy estancia, just full of antique items. It appears that they never threw anything away. Here are some radios. When you live very far from civilization, the radio becomes an important communication device. We took a tour from Punta Arenas, Chile, to this estancia, among other stops. To get to the farm, our full tour bus was loaded onto an already-laden ferry, and carried over a narrow arm of the ocean. Quite an experience. Image processed with GIMP.

Port of Lima Naval Marine Military Base (HWW)

15 Jan 2008 14 3 140
Saw this military facility from our bus, during a visit to Lima, Peru, from the cruise. This looks to be a substantial protection for the military base. (The gun is probably not part of the protection....) Image processed with GIMP.

T-Shirt Seller (HTT)

01 Mar 2008 12 1 155
T-shirt seller in Parintins, Brazil. He is also the artist, and we were very impressed with the images he created. We still wear these shirts, purchased in 2008. This enterprising man set up an impromptu table at the port of Parintins, and our cruise ship was happy to supply buyers. Image processed with GIMP.

Iguana (bw)

07 Jan 2008 16 5 172
Same iguana, converted to monochrome with GIMP.

Iguana

07 Jan 2008 12 2 154
Seen along the Tortuguero Canals in Costa Rica. This lizard blends in so well with the lush greenery, that I had to do a bit of color manipulation in GIMP to make it easier to see it.

Welcome to Puerto Montt (HWW, H.A.N.W.E.)

23 Jan 2008 18 6 153
This sign on the seawall greeted us as we arrived in Puerto Montt. This is a very interesting area in Chile. Image processed with GIMP

Decorated Table for "Oscars Night"

24 Feb 2008 9 2 126
During our South America cruise in 2008, the cruise line went out of their way to have "special" nights in the main dining room. Each time, all new decorations were put up. Certainly made for a festive evening. This table is decorated for "Oscars Night". We were at sea when Hollywood had its special night. Image processed with GIMP.

Falklands Memorial Wall (HBM)

07 Feb 2008 24 8 166
Taken during our stop in 2008. This statue and memorial wall honor those who fought during the recent War. Image process with GIMP.
