Dear members and friends of ipernity!
1) The summer collection of Frontpage pictures is now online. We thank all members who have enriched it with new contributions.
2) This morning we successfully exchanged one of our main servers. For this technical operation we had the support of an AWS expert from Innovations ON. He is currently checking our entire server architecture for the optimal balance between adequacy and performance to make sure that our website is running on an up-to-date technical basis. This cooperation is in its early stages, but we hope that they will also provide support on the software side in future.
3) The modernization process of our website, which was recently started, has reached a first milestone. The widescreen display of 'What's hot' runs stable. The requests we received have been taken into account as far as possible. Where they were contradictory, we have installed options. We ask for your final evaluation.
Comparison of the old version and the new version:
The three freely selectable alternatives of the widescreen display:
Detailed explanations can be found under the enlarged views (please click on the pictures).
4) At the same time, we have started the modernization of two other pages. There we are still in the early stages. An official basis for discussion will be presented in the next Newsflash.
5) We want you to be fully involved in all these further developments. However, we ask for your understanding that not every wish can be fulfilled. Furthermore we ask for a certain open-mindedness for changes.
The Manifest for reprogramming ipernity, which was passed 15 months ago, contains the clear stipulation that the distinctive character of ipernity shall be preserved. Nevertheless, many details need to be updated to be at least as attractive as the other photo sharing platforms. This also creates a clear starting point for the intended reprogramming that the Ipernity General Meeting 2019 has decided to ensure that ipernity continues to function flawlessly in the constantly evolving World Wide Web in future.
To make this renewal process a success, we are dependent on your benevolent support.

5) An all diesen Weiterentwicklungen wollen wir euch umfassend beteiligen.
Euer ima-Team
Will have a look at the new page.
Jaap van 't Veen club has added1) A gorgeous collection of photos for the front page. I'm very impressed. Congratulations to all the photographers and artists whose images were chosen. I'm happy to see that one B&W image got selected and one more graphic type photo. They help round out what goes on here on ipernity. Now I will have to go visit each of those photos photographers pages!
2) So so happy that the server exchange was successful - and also that we now have another resource for software support.
ima team - thank you for the hard work to make this happen. You always persevere through tough situations, and I'm so grateful.
Thanks to Innovations ON for their expertice. We're so lucky to have them working for us. I remember that 2 years ago, the server maintenance took 2 whole days!! This was done in hours.
3) What's Hot - Wide Screen? I'm really enjoying this new feature. And how amazing that our in-house programmer could accomplish this wide screen option for us!!!
At first I didn't think I would like the frames around the images, but now I'm quite pleased with it. But I'm fickle, so it's great to have the option to choose which way I can see it!! (Thanks Rob for making the options stay on my choice even when I leave a page.) I call this a success!
4) Happy to be able to be part of the discussion when available. One of the things I like about ipernity, that we have discussions about what's going on.
5) Yes. Thanks for the info.

I am not great at grabbing a screenshots However I managed and the screenshot shows the whole image which does not show my problem there.
The Birds of Paradise photo is displayed as 1024 by 683. If the screen height is only 500 then clearly you will have to zoom out for a reduced width, to see the whole photo.
Treasa Ui Cionaodha has replied to Rob Stamp clubraingirl club has replied to Treasa Ui CionaodhaJust so you know, I have, on rare occassion, discovered that my browser has zoomed in. I don't know how this can happen without me actively doing it, but yet it has. Maybe some update or setting has inadvertently gotten changed. Who knows.
I hope your problem gets fixed soon.
Don't know if it is possibel, but just wonder wether the name of the member and the date of upload could be can be given in a row. Would make the 'block' of data more compact !!
With the change to the more readable date, this wrapping was an issue with months such as September. I have since learnt how to format the date to three letter month. Also, long names can be shortened and have ... at the end, while the mouse-over popup provides the full name.
I can see this being a fruitful development.
Jaap van 't Veen club has replied to Rob Stamp clubFor instance:
New: one can see it on the upload date,
Populair: the main page (in Dutch) is also called Populair, meaning all these pictures are Populair
And why is one picture 'New' and a next one 'Populair' ??
My latest upload - on the momeent number 1 - is either Populair or New ??
Team club has replied to Jaap van 't Veen clubWe ask for your understanding that we do not have the resources for this. For now, please let's stick to the simple things, which have a great external impact on the attractiveness of ipernity for potential new members. They are difficult and time consuming enough.
Jaap van 't Veen club has replied to Team clubDue consideration will be given to the order of the Comments, Favorites, Visits.
Obviously there will be differing opinions on the best order, and whether it even needs changing.
It seems sense to put Visits first, because it will have a value before Comms or Favs, for a more consistent layout. One might then think that Visits should be last on other pages, where it is right aligned, again for a consistent layout. Another variant to consider is that Visits is only clickable for the owner, not for a visitor, so is it indeed best as it is, with the more meaningful (?) Comms and Favs first, while Visits generally grows over time.

2) Congratulations for the successful exchange of one of ipernity's main servers, and many thanks to Bernhard, Rob and the expert from Innovations ON for their excellent work.
3) Without wanting to flatter you, Bernhard and Rob, I can only say that I am saddened that you are facing such great resistance. On the other hand... headwinds make us strong. Maybe, therefore, this can be seen as a good and necessary preparation for the upcoming reprogramming. Either way, you both do excellent work. The clarity of the information under the pictures is increasing, the design possibilities with the help of the frame variations are optimal, thus also adjustable for administrative work where a frame is disturbing (for example "Explore/What's hot!").
Some days ago I tried the widescreen mode in my gallery for the first time and chose the filled frame for example. I really like this view. The "delete cross" is now in the same place as in groups. All in all there is more order and clarity, which will make it easier to use, even if one or the other might still have to get used to it.
4/5) The team has involved the community in development processes in an exemplary manner, has shown great empathy so far, and has met many individual needs through its remarkable creativity. I firmly trust that the team will continue to succeed in mastering the balancing act between preserving the distinctive character of ipernity and the necessary updating. For my part, I also hope that as many members as possible will participate in this development process - for the benefit of ipernity, for the benefit of our community and for their own benefit and enjoyment.
Finally, a big thank you to all those who make their individual contribution to the maintenance of this site and its continued existence. You are great!

* ઇઉ * club has replied to Team clubPerhaps I overlooked whether an adjustment of the number of image rows in widescreen mode in the galleries to the number of image rows of "What's hot!" is intended or was suggested. If not, I would like to suggest it here, even if it is not directly related to the above mentioned modernization.
raingirl club has replied to * ઇઉ * clubTeam club has replied to * ઇઉ * club* ઇઉ * club has replied to raingirl club* ઇઉ * club has replied to Team clubFor "What's hot!", there are currently six rows of 4-5 pictures each in widescreen mode / depending on the browser, but in the gallery there are only three. And they start (at least for me) with an "empty line" (independent of the browser used). In this case it would be advantageous to adjust the number of rows to "What's hot!".
For the restructuring of "What's hot!", which I think is necessary, I would like to comment in more detail in the next Newsflash, if possible.
