Sunset and structure

25 Apr 2024 19 14 661
I have no idea of the purpose (if any), but someone made this structure from driftwood found on the beach (plenty following recent rain).

Southern Right Whale

19 Apr 2022 29 21 602
My recent images have had some references to whale watching . Whales migrate up the eastern coast of Australia in August to calve in warmer waters, returning to the Antarctic area about November. This Southern Right Whale (Eubalaena australis) apparently calved in our local bay, causing quite a degree of local excitement. More images in the PiPs, also a long shot of a Humpback Whale breaching offshore.

Moon and Jupiter

22 Aug 2021 23 16 475
Tonight there was a clear sky for a great view of the full (blue) moon and Jupiter. It seems a "blue moon" is when there are two full moons in the one month. Here's a musical link.

Flowering tibouchina

Our neighbour has a tibouchina tree (apparently called a Princess Flower in some places) which flowers prolifically at this time of year and hangs over our fence. See also PiP.

Enjoying the flowers

08 Aug 2020 36 18 444
When I posted a macro of some Wonga vine flowers a few days ago, Tacheles asked if there are any long billed birds to eat the nectar. It so happens there are, the birds are called Eastern Spinebills and I found I had some images of one taken a few years ago and not previously posted. Other photos are in the PiPs.

Noisy Wattlebird

09 Apr 2020 55 47 776
These Australian honeyeaters are called "Little Wattlebirds" (they're about 35cm), though I think my title would be more appropriate. They're no songbirds, instead having a number of loud vocal calls such as "LOOKOUT" . This one was probably complaining about me taking its photo without first getting approval. :-) Best viewed large. Another image in the PiP. Wishing everyone a very Happy Fence Friday and, for those who observe it, an enjoyable Easter. Most of all, stay safe in these difficult times.

Along the road

Heading through the wheatfields of South Australia, with a silo in the distance. Here's a musical link. Explored.
