Hidden and well guarded fence

09 Sep 2021 35 38 695
Australian native Wonga Wonga Vines (Pandorea pandorana) , helping to cover the otherwise boring metal fence. Over in the right corner is my little West Highland Terrier "Meg", in her favourite sunny position. The Wonga Wonga Vines flower from late winter to summer and are currently in full flower. Another image of the hidden fence in the PiPs, also some images I've previously posted of the flowers from these vines. Well, it's spring here and it's started off with perfect weather. Happy Fence Friday everyone, and have a safe and enjoyable weekend. I've also added a link to a musical classic that was released 50 years ago today (starts at about 40 sec) and is as relevant as ever.

Flowers on one of our Wonga Wonga (or just "Wonga") vines. The Wonga vine is a plant native to the east coast of Australia. In the wild the flowers are whitish to yellow, often with dark purple markings. They have been hybridised to give a range of colours for gardens (see also clickable PiPs). The tubular flowers are 10-25mm long.

Our Wonga vines are just beginning to flower, pretty much the first indications that winter is passing here. In a week or two they'll be a mass of blossoms. The flowers are about 25mm long. Explored.

The bee on the Wonga

The Australian native Wonga Wonga Vine Pandorea pandorana is currently in full flower and the bees are making the most of it. Of course, bees have been known to sting and that prompts this musical link which I relate to the Australian news in the background as I write this.

Flowering in Winter

It's winter down in the Southern Hemisphere, but it's been very mild so far. The Wonga Wonga vine has been confused and has begun to flower: it must think spring has arrived early! :) The flowers are about 20mm long. Explored.
