detail of thomas blashill's 1895 entrance to the tunnel. one of the coats of arms is the white horse of kent, the one on the left is generally supposed to be surrey council, but actually represents the arms of the town of guildford, probably a mistake. essex and middlesex were on the demolished northern gatehouse.

entrance archway to the northbound tunnel on greenwich peninsular, designed by l.c.c. architect thomas blashill , built 1895-7. the two gatehouses each contained three bedroom residential accomodation for caretaker and superintendant.
