a headless king is one of the clunch statues under nodding ogees between each pair of seats. as elsewhere in the cathedral, almost every head has gone; not the act of a mob of vandals, but the work of a paid man going round with a hammer and chisel and carefully defacing each figure, an act bemoaned from the early c17 onwards, so done in the time of thomas not oliver cromwell.

there's a snail climbing the foliage at the bottom of the gable on this bit of mini architecture, part of the clunch tops of purbeck butresses, the join to which can be seen here. built 1335-53

stellar lierne vault of the lady chapel, built 1335-53. amongst the adam and eves, and christs etc. are several bosses of people sticking their tongues out, green men, and black men. there are also clear tracery patterns painted onto the webs in one corner.
