Govan, Glasgow The sculptor, Andrew Brown, designed the group to show “Mrs Barbour’s Army”, the ordinary women, men, and children who marched, protested, and resisted evictions during the rent strikes. The children in the sculpture stand for: the families threatened with eviction the young people who joined the marches the moral force of the community the idea that the struggle was for future generations The placard this young boy holds, “The will of the people is the law”, echoes the democratic, grassroots nature of the movement.
