Grandson's 5th birthday cake 10 12 2021

The brown and yellow fondant icing covered one of my wife's excellent sponge cakes. The drainpipes made from confectionary bootlaces were laid in a trench cut in the sponge. The walls and floors of the partly constructed buildings were chocolate wafer biscuits. The rest of the scene was formed from foam insulation sheets. The cardboard skips were later filled with sweets/candies for our grandson's school friends. The crane was made from tilers' edging strips, with its cabin made from Tic Tac boxes. The trucks and diggers were borrowed from his own toybox.

Spiderman cake with candles alight

My four-year-old grandson asked for a Spiderman birthday cake. My wife baked a great sponge cake which I simply made into a three-layered base covered in blue and red fondant icing. This was then placed inside a skyscraper scene made from insulation foam covered in printouts of some of my photos of London office buildings. A small metal figure, a couple of Hot Wheels cars and a bit of metal mesh completed the scene. This photo was uploaded when I saw Andrew Trundlewagon's photo of the Spiderman re-enactor.

Yes, I have been experimenting with yet another set of Photoshop 'brushes'. This time it is cakes - combined with a 'color gradient' in pastel shades. I apologise to any diabetics or weight-watchers who may have stumbled across this, but I don't think I would want to eat any of these myself!
