Environment commentary - The Rampion wind farm, off the Sussex coast, near Brighton, will be expanded by at least 100% over the next few years. Support vessels like these will be needed when commissioning turbines and then, in smaller numbers when they are up and running, for maintenance. From the home ports of vessels here - Fleetwood and Great Yarmouth, the industry is spread wide around the UK coasts.

A type of vessel we are likely to be seeing a lot of, as Newhaven's role as the support base for the Rampion off-shore wind farm develops.

This panorama is a narrow slice of a 35mm format photograph. The Rampion wind farm appears and disappears according to the lighting and to a lesser extent the level of the tide. It is being expanded over the next few years. It will extend further to the left of these turbines, further beyond and much further down to the southwest. This will double the current 116 turbines.
