The flower known as Pigface (Carpobrotus) grows freely on the coastal plain of WA. Indigenous Australians found that it had many medicinal properties and used it to treat bites and stings. It also (when mixed with water) alleviated stomach upsets and mouth ulcers. It's cool that the name Pigface is used for a bookshop, which provides wide-ranging medicine for the soul.

Have a fabulously Happy Fence Friday. This was once the garden centre of the Bunnings hardware store, which moved to new premises about six years ago. The main store is no longer a Bunnings outlet and now sells beds and furniture but this nursery area lies empty, unwanted and unloved. I hope your weekend is full of promise and that you are wanted and loved. (Note for non-Australians: Bunnings is a large retail chain selling hardware, DIY tools, plants and gardening equipment. It is like an Aladdin's Cave for grown-ups. Unfortunately over the past twenty years the chain has driven almost every independent garden centre and hardware shop out of existence. Mandurah has a population of more than 80,000 people and the two Bunnings stores are the only game in town. The big guys always win, don't they?)

A Happy and restful Bench Monday to everyone. I hope your weekend was a feast of fun and the week head brings much joy. This bench is on South Terrace in Fremantle, a vibrant café strip (usually vibrant, but not at 7.45 on a Monday morning). The building to the left houses the delightfully named "Sailing for Oranges" café/restaurant/bistro.

A Happy Wednesday Wall to everyone. Let's hope it's a good one and that the rest of the week brings calm and peace, both personally and generally. This wall is part of the Trinity Walk mall in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The letter D in the top right is the start of the Debenham's sign, although the store, meant to be the signature retailer for the mall, has now closed, as have a number of others. Internet shopping has a lot to answer for.

Sorry I've not been around for a while. My venerable iMac turned up its toes in March - even Apples must die sometime (sniff, sniff), but now I've got a new one (thanks to She who not only Must Be Obeyed but who has money she's willing to spend on me) so I can waste everyone's time again.
