This is part of the International Wall in Divis Street that was repainted in 2016 by Danny Devenny for the marking of the centenary of the Easter Rising of 1916. In 1974, the British Army used CR gas, a toxic chemical agent, on prisoners in the Long Kesh Prison.

This is part of the International Wall in Divis Street. On the left with the typewriter is Winifred Carney, secretary and aide to James Connolly. She was with him in the GPO in Dublin as a non-combatant during the Easter Rising and documented his words and what was happening. In the middle is Kieran Nugent, the first "blanketman" in the Maze Prison during the "no wash" campaign. IRA prisoners were protesting in order to be recognized as political prisoners, allowed to wear their own clothes and be housed separately from the other felons in the prison. Next to him is Mairead Farrell, one of the Gibraltar Three who were killed by British military forces in Gibraltar in 1988. On the right are Bobby Sands and the other nine prisoners who died in the hunger strike in the Maze Prison in 1981.

The woman depicted in the middle of this section is Countess Constance Markievicz. The guy on the right is Joe Gleeson (from Liverpool -- see the liverbird badge on his bandolier).

Northern Ireland is next! Although abortion has been legal for decades in the UK, the women of Northern Ireland (who are UK citizens) have been denied access because of a deal cooked up with Westminster by the NI government. Irish women needed to travel by plane and train to receive reproductive health care in Britain. On May 25, 2018 the citizens of the Republic of Ireland voted to repeal the 8th amendment to their constitution, which had outlawed abortion. With that repeal, Northern Ireland now has the most restrictive abortion laws in Europe. Poster seen at a bus stop on Great Victoria Street, opposite the Great Northern Mall and the Europa Hotel.
