Taken in my local country park last week..........the Beacon is a folly built in 1830 in the style of a Tuscan order temple. It was restored circa 2017. The is another shot in the PiP taken from a slightly different perspective. Thanks for looking and have a lovely weekend y'all..!!

This folly, built in 1830 in the style of an Ionic temple, is located in the grounds of Leigh Park Gardens (also known at the Sir George Staunton Country Park), which is a five minute drive from my house and a lovely place for a walk. I've no idea why it is called the Beacon or indeed, what purpose it was built for. Edit 29th May: www.stauntoncp.co.uk/en/page/5077 Many thanks to Mikus for finding this link for me. It seems that it was called the Beacon because the owner of the park at the time used to fly a flag on the top of it when he was in residence :-))

Taken yesterday on the Cowdray Estate, Nr Midhurst, West Sussex. The little green thing in the water is a duck house. The folly was built as a memorial to the Third Viscount of Cowdray who died in 2000.

Racton Monument , West Sussex

Processed using ON1 Photo Raw 2018, which I am currently trying out with a view to replacing LR in due course. This is obviously a texture, one of dozens available. Racton Monument (known locally as Racton Ruin) is a folly situated on a hill in Racton, West Sussex, England. It was commissioned by the 2nd Earl of Halifax, possibly as a summerhouse for the nearby Stansted Estate, though an alternative theory suggests it could have been constructed so the Earl could watch his merchant ships dock at the nearby port village of Emsworth. It is owned by a private owner who has planning permission to turn the monument into a dwelling, though these plans are yet to materialise, if ever. Its isolated nature, being set away from populated places and major roads, has led to several cases of suicide at the monument, most recently in 2009. Occult acts are known to take place on occasion there. The monument is also popular with paranormal investigators visiting to investigate reported paranormal activity at the site. Witnesses claim to have seen bricks thrown from above, heard ghostly shouts, and intrigue surrounds the myth that the folly may have been used by smugglers. This charming folly is situated on the edge of Benbow Pond, on the Cowdray Estate, near Midhurst, West Sussex. It was built as a memorial to the Third Viscount of Cowdray who died in 2000.

I have no idea what this is used for. It is in someones back garden and is visible from the end of Bosham Lane near the foreshore. I suspect it is a summerhouse of sorts.............I've always thought it was quite photogenic.

I'm slowly getting better but still cannot drive for more than 10 mins or so but we popped out to one of our local garden centres the other day for lunch and on the way home I took a couple of photos. Luckily the E-M1 is light enough to be used one handed. This has been processed in LR and Nik Colour Efex Pro4.

It looks quite lovely from a distance, but is now in a dangerous condition. Last time I went there it was obviously being used by drinkers/drug takers and it smelled badly of urine and worse..!! Such a shame.

Found this oddity whilst out driving up on Grafton Down, Wiltshire, this afternoon.......and of course had to stop and grab a shot. Googled it on my return and as far as I can ascertain it is now obsolete. Originally built in 1899 as part of the Wexcombe Waterworks.
