This image, taken from Hayling Island looking towards Langstone, is of the old railway bridge (made mainly of wood) that carried the steam railway line from Havant to Hayling Island. The train was known locally as the Puffing Billy and it ran from 1867 until 1963, when the repairs required to keep the bridge in safe working condition became to expensive and the line was permanently closed. In the first PiP there is a closer shot of what remains of the turntable that was used to open the bridge to boat traffic. In the second PiP is a shot of the only signal that remains intact.

This was taken last month, but I thought I'd post it as I haven't yet taken a photo this year..!! This bridge used to carry the Hayling Billy steam train from the mainland to Hayling Island. Taken at dusk.

Whilst I was waiting to shoot a sunset the other evening, I thought I'd get a few snapshots of what used to be the railway line that ran between Havant and Hayling line.....and the road bridge which is now the only link with the mainland. Taken from the Hayling Billy line looking towards the road bridge. This is all that is left of the old railway signal.

These concrete blocks are all that remains of the old wooden railway bridge. The rusty metal structures in the middle of the bridge are the remains of the swing bridge, which used to open to let boats in and out.
