Uppark House was built in 1690 iin South Harting, West Sussex, England. It is a Grade I listed building and a National Trust property. As the sky was grey and featureless I decided that black and white was the way to go with this one. This is the nearest Trust property to where I live. Unfortunately I've never been able to visit the interior of the house, apart from a couple of ground floor rooms, mainly due to covid-19 restrictions, but the gardens are lovely and they do a pricey but very nice bit of coffee and cake in their café. In 1989 as work on restoring the roof was near completion a huge fire broke out on the top floors. The Fire Service worked to contain the fire while staff, volunteers and members of the public started removing the contents of the house to safety. Nevertheless, can imagine the damage done, not just directly by the fire, but also by the water used to contain it.
