Went here today with Alby, and for the first time it was open. There is no electricity in here - candles are the only form of lighting when it gets dark. This was handheld at ISO 2000.
Against the sky.

Part of a bench in the grounds of St Marys Church, North Marden, West Sussex. I like the textures in the wood and the flint wall of the church.
This was originally posted in April 2013 as part of a huge amount of photos transferred across from Flickr and as such have had little attention on Ipernity. Hope you like it. It looks much better viewed large.
Happy Bench Monday and have a good week everyone!

Originally a chapel of ease to East Marden and perhaps always approached through a farmyard, St Mary's is believed to have been founded by Geoffrey, son of Azo, late in the 12th century. It consists of an undivided nave and chancel. The chancel has a semi-circular (apsidal) end, and is one of only six small churches in England that has one. The principal feature of the church is the elaborate Norman south doorway. Made of Caen stone, this was probably shipped across the channel to Chichester harbour and then transported by packhorse to North Marden.
Monthly children's services are held in the church which is lit by candles as there is no electricity.

Just added to show how close the trees are to the church, and how long the bench in the grounds is! Nicer light in this version though.
