View from Portsmouth to Gosport

16 Sep 2025 14 20 396
Taken from The Hard, Portsmouth, looking over to the tower blocks and church spire in Gosport. If you view large, and look in the direction of the church you can see a green boat moored alongside.......it used to be a lightship, but now houses a restaurant. Edit 17th Sep. Thanks to Alby for pointing out my stupid mistake. I should have looked closer at my own photo. It is, of course the Gosport Ferry. The restaurant looks like this: www.ipernity.com/doc/keithburton/52482142

A view across Portsmouth Harbour

Looking towards the town of Gosport and lots of sailing boats. Taken in 16:9 format, so probably best viewed large.

A view from Southsea Seafront

Looking across to Gosport in the distance. The rocks in the foreground are part of the recently renewed sea defences. Have a lovely weekend everyone.

The Hard, Portsmouth

18 Mar 2025 13 30 478
Taken at low tide and looking towards Gosport. The Hard is an area of foreshore that is firm enough, naturally and man made, to give access to the boats moored along it.

The Lightship

Formerly called the Mary Mouse 2 and now simply called The Lightship this beautifully restored 1940s ship is now a classy restaurant moored in Haslar Marina, Gosport, Hampshire. Best viewed large. Thanks for looking :-)

Probably the most photographed blocks of flats in Gosport. But on a nice sunny day I think they look splendid. You can also see Gosport's Holy Trinity Church betweeen the blocks.

Last Light Over Gosport - 1

05 Dec 2017 3 4 489
Yesterday showed the promise of a decent sunset and I settled down to wait for it. In the end, despite a hint of colour in the sky it came to nothing and this was the best I had to show. The tower you can see houses the Royal Navy Submarine Escape Training Tank which remained here after HMS Dolphin (which included the Submarine School), was closed down in 1998. The School was relocated to the West Country, but the Tank remains in use (as part of what is now called Fort Blockhouse). The Tower overlooks the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour.

USS George H W Bush (CVN-77)

31 Jul 2017 10 6 832
I thought I ought to go and take a pic of this gigantic supercarrier as it's currently anchored in Stokes Bay, Gosport, Hampshire. It's only a "record" shot, taken in hazy sunshine using my 40-150 lens and a 1.4 teleconverter.......and a crop......and processed to death. I was lucky enough to get onboard the USS Nimitz years ago to have a look round.........and it's difficult to explain just how big these things are. Check out her impressive stats on Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_George_H.W._Bush It does look better viewed large, on black..............but not much :-))

Looking towards Gosport Town Center and Portsmouth. In the back ground you can see the Spinnaker Tower, the masts of HMS Warrior, and the Holy Trinity Church, as well as the distinctive blocks of Flats near Gosport waterfront. In the foreground is one of several small boats left to rot in the lake. Please view large, on black.
