This is what I grew up calling honeysuckle. As kids we pulled the flowers off, bit off the bottom tail, and sucked the "honey" out. I was in my twenties, in the mid-1970s, before someone told me its "real" name was "butter & eggs." And over the half-century since then I've heard a dozen other names: toadflax, butter & cream, snapdragons, and so on. It's no wonder that anyone serious about communication uses the "Latin" name, Linaria vulgaris. This picture was taken this afternoon, 7 September, about as perfect a date to look for honeysuckles as there might be.
