Near Richland, Michigan.

The folks who settled Eaton County, Michigan, called the swamp that covered much of Windsor Township " The Old Maid Swamp ." Nowadays, to the extent it's called anything, it's the Secondary Complex Marsh or (if you're an old state employee) Lake Austin. At least in this corner of the bog. I think we should resurrect the old name.... Photo shot from the parking lot of the Secretary of State building, where I worked more or less forever without knowing the swamp's True Name.

Three Lakes, Richland, Michigan.

Near Richland, Michigan. I was trying to capture all the shades of green around the lake in this photo, and would like to believe that I managed to do so.

Well, just the middle lake, but they don't have individual names. South of Richland, Michigan.

For some reason, none of these lakes got individual names.

This is Unit B, looking west from from the viewing platform.

Maple River State Game Area, north of St. Johns, Michigan. We saw Sandhill Cranes, Herons of several sorts, lots of ducks, a few geese, and some hunters setting out decoys. A fine afternoon.

Just off Gunflint Trail in far northern Minnesota. We weren't in Boundary Waters, but we were close....

Our office building's pretty ugly , but we've got this excellent pond beyond the parking lot.
