Lake Michigan Sunset

From Jolli-Lodge, which has a Lake Leelanau address--but I think of it as Leland (as does Yahoo maps, I see). This resort was Mom's favorite vacation place; we'd join her there for Labor Day weekend to end every summer. Taken with my Nikon N90s in early September, 1999.

Jolli Beach

A family, relaxing. And Lake Michigan all the way to the horizon. Jolli-Lodge, near Leland, Michigan. Photo from 1999, with my Nikon N90s.

The View from Jolli-Lodge

Jolli Waterfront

Of course there's a beach. Lake Michigan, looking north from Jolli-Lodge . Nikon N90s, 1999.

Ominous

Good Harbor Bay, on Lake Michigan, looking toward Pyramid Point. A different sunset from yesterday's photo , but another photo from Jolli-Lodge on the same 1999 weekend.

Heart of Jolli-Lodge

The building on the left has four apartments; the lodge, proper, is on the right. The complex has evolved over the years; this view is quite different from my first encounter with the place, early in 1991. Camera: Nikon N90s. 1999

Jolli Cabin

Until Dad passed away, he and Mom usually shared this cabin when they stayed at Jolli-Lodge. Or so Mom told us. When she started inviting us up for Labor Day, she naturally had us stay in a larger place. Note the bottom of the large mast on the right. It serves as a very large flagpole.... Camera: Nikon N90s. 1999.

Jolli-Lodge

This-- Jolli-Lodge , near Leland--was, we think, Mom's favorite place. She and Dad vacationed there regularly, and after Dad passed away she continued to take refuge at Jolli in late summer. She'd invite the rest of us up for Labor Day, and we'd join her for a peaceful and relaxing weekend. We really need to resurrect that tradition. Jolli-Lodge has several buildings, including cabins and a sprawling waterfront lodge, in a park-like and family-friendly setting. The resort faces Lake Michigan--down 25 or 40 steps from where I took this picture--and the Manitou Islands; to the south are the high dunes of Pyramid Point. The view is simply incredible. Photo taken on Labor Day weekend in 1993. Camera: Chinon Genesis III
