The Sail and the Tug

21 Jul 2014 1 161
I think the tug is Manitou, but didn't get a really good view. This photograph is far below my usual standard....

Explored! #209 on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 (but no longer in the top 500; perhaps the most mysterious in my Explored! group). Thanks!

Let's Sail Away

02 Oct 2012 112
The prettiest boat in the Suttons Bay Marina. Rather wish we'd got her name....

Sail Away

01 Jul 2012 117
South Haven, yet again. But it hardly matters....

Fun on the Water

South Haven.

Summer's Coming....

19 Mar 2011 113
Muskegon's harbor entrance is protected by two breakwaters and two piers. This is the South Pierhead light. There's a square tower at the end of the south breakwater and a smaller navigational aid at the end of the north breakwater.

Watermelon again

Same picture as this , processed differently. I'm pretty sure I like this one better.

Watermelon

17 Feb 2010 139
A mediocre scan of a photo taken with too-fast film. Too bad; the photo came out otherwise nicely. Another version . The boat's name is Watermelon, but it's pretty hard to read in this pic.

Wind Catcher

Leaving Cheboygan

A sailboat leaves Cheboygan's harbor.

Poe Reef Light with Sail

18 Aug 2011 105
People used to live in that building. Like 14 Foot Shoal , this light marks an obstruction in the channel between Bois Blanc Island and the mainland, and is visible from the long beach at Cheboygan State Park. Not as close to the park, though.

Blue Water!

31 Aug 2006 117
Sarnia's casino, Port Huron's MOC, and some boats on the river. July 3, 2005; shot from under the Blue Water Bridge.

Fun at the Beach

08 Jul 2005 118
Things to do at the beach. You can fish, you can wade, you can picnic, you can sketch the lighthouse. You could swim, too, though none of these folks are doing so. Or you could be out on the lake.... Lighthouse Park, Port Huron, Michigan.

Blue Water Boundary

04 Jul 2005 124
It's late afternoon at the base of Lake Huron and the sailboats are returning to the marinas. Sarnia's Flag Plaza, shot from Port Huron's. We spend yesterday watching the boats, watching the people, watching the birds, and enjoying the glorious weather. We also found our way to the Fort Gratiot Light, where it turns out there's a marvelous beach; we may well plan our next visit around that knowledge. It's a holiday weekend in both towns, as Canada Day celebrates the creation of the Dominion on July 1 in ways which resemble Independence Day on the American side.
