At Hot Rods and Harleys, taking place in downtown Mulliken, Michigan, right now . Until midnight or so, they say.

St. Ignace Auto Show, 2005 This is clearly the design which inspired the new Mustang--so this car is my car's ancestor. Great bloodlines.

Pony

I interrupt my social-apps vacation to post a photo I took the day I bought my Mustang, which is a few days short of seven years old. I plan to replace the ponycar this week. It's been a good companion; I'll miss it.

Mach 1

Wonder if I can trade my Mustang for this Mustang? St. Ignace, Michigan--at, but not part of, the 2010 Antiques by the Bay Car Show. Another view .

Another view of the Mach 1 I was admiring in St. Ignace last month. The car show's in the background. I want .

Down by the River

The Grand, south of Portland, north of Mulliken. This was long the location of a pretty bridge , but it's been replaced with one that's far more substantial. The old bridge has been restored (and painted!) and now lives in a Battle Creek park.

Pony Anniversary

06 Nov 2005 127
I bought the Pony one year ago today and have put over 14,000 miles on it in that time. We've used it for daily commuting, for day trips, and have taken it on vacation. People have long-since stopped treating it as something exotic; new Mustangs are now fairly common. But it still draws stares and comments from friends and strangers. That's fun. Common question: Gas mileage is typically between 21 & 22 MPG for my long, country-roads commute; on the highway the car gets about 26 MPG. Things I like: Basically everything. It's a solid car with decent handling and enough power for my purposes. The right way to think of the V6, I'd say, is that it's an exquisite highway car; that it does other things well is a bonus. Issues: The passenger seat isn't doesn't have an up-and-down adjustment. This is a problem for Joan, who's not really all that short, but has difficulty seeing out. The automatic door locks--both the key fob and the switch in the door--are a little flakey. Odd repair: The gear indicator on the shift lever stopped indicating the gear. The car was in the shop for over two days while the dealer dismantled the interior, analyzed the problem, and (in the end) replaced the entire shift assembly. Glad this was done under warranty. Embarrassing repair: I banged the passenger-side mirror on the garage door frame, requiring the mirror's replacement.

Stopped to get a haircut, took a picture, headed home. Call it a tribute to Road & Track's John Lamm .

Pony Meets Muscle

Went to an off-campus meeting the other day, and found another new Mustang out in the "exotic cars" section of the lot at my host's building. So I pretended mine was an exotic, too....

Pony at the Beach

20 Jun 2005 195
We took the Pony out for a ride yesterday. Visited Grand Haven--where we photographed the lighthouse and walked the beach--and South Haven--where we photographed the lighthouse and supped at Clementine's (good food; great building). For a resort town in November, SH was a surprisingly busy place. Anyway, here's m' new car at the beach in Grand Haven. Lake Michigan's just barely visible in the background, and you can almost make out the lights marking the harbor entrance through the trees. Technically we're in Grand Haven State Park, which was closed for the season except right by the harbor entrance. Most of yesterday's photos were taken with the good camera, and we'll have to get them developed before we can share. Neat car. Fun day. This was originally a blog post dated 11/13/2004 on a dabbler's journal .

Iris, Phlox, and Pony

11 May 2005 139
This was originally planned as a photo of the Iris. But there, lurking in the background, is my Mustang. The Iris was one of last spring's plantings, and will be flowering in a day or two. The new garden's coming along nicely; nearly everything survived the winter.

Pony at Six Months

Billwood Crossing

08 May 2005 152
A new Ford Mustang convertible waits for a train to arrive at CN's Billwood Highway railroad crossing a short distance from where I work. I was returning to work after a lunchtime errand and couldn't resist shooting his pony from my pony. Cute car. The crossing's a short distance from work; I can see this rail line (though not the crossing) from my desk. Interstate 69 crosses both Billwood and the railroad at this point; thus the structure framing the top of the picture.
