The former Institut des Sourdes-muettes (Institute for Deaf-Mute Girls), at 3725 Saint-Denis, was built from 1881-1900 by Joseph Michaud and A. Préfontaine. The building, consisting of many wings, covers a complete block and is typical of the institutional architecture of the time in Québec. It currently houses the Montréal headquarters of the provincial government's public health and social services networks.
