One of my annual trips down to the Francis Marion National Forest in Berkeley County, South Carolina. The target species were Platanthera cristata or Crested Fringed orchid and Platanthera conspicua or Southern White Fringed orchid . I found both of them in fairly good supply, but the Southern White Fringed orchids were just coming into bloom. Four hours each way from home, and then another three to four hours of driving around looking for photographic opportunities did make for a long trip.
