The façade and interior of Lamego Cathedral integrate architectural styles from different periods, simultaneously imposing a sense of beauty and monumentality.
The first reference to the bishopric of Lamego dates from the year 572, when Bishop Sardinário was present at the II Council of Braga, but the diocese was only restored after the defeat of the Arab invaders, having reappeared in the twelfth century. The building that exists today began to be built in 1159 on top of an old chapel dedicated to São Sebastião, erected a few decades earlier. In 1175 it was consecrated and dedicated to Santa Maria and São Sebastião.

In Catholic teaching, the Sacrament of Penance is the method of the Church by which individual men and women confess sins committed after baptism and have them absolved by God through the administration of a Priest
Buddhism has been from its inception primarily a tradition of renunciation and monasticism. Within the monastic framework (called the Vinaya) of the sangha regular confession [zh] of wrongdoing to other monks is mandatory.
In Islam the confession of sins is made directly to Allah and not through man; the only exception is when confessing to a person is a required step in recompensing for the damage done. It is taught that sins are to be kept to oneself to seek individual forgiveness from Allah.
In Hinduism confession is part of Prāyaścitta, a dharma-related term and refers to voluntarily accepting one's errors and misdeeds, confession, repentance, means of penance and expiation to undo or reduce the karmic consequences.

Viseu Cathedral is a Latin cross church with a three-aisled nave, transept and three Eastern chapels. The main façade is flanked by two towers. The outer, lateral walls of the church have a heavy, menacing appearance, typical of Portuguese mediaeval cathedrals, being partially decorated with merlons. In the interior, all aisles are of approximately equal height, resembling a hall church. The stone rib vaulting is supported by massive pillars and was built between 1505 and 1513, being an outstanding example of Manueline architecture. Some ribs of the roof (liernes) are shaped like twisted ropes and knots, typical Manueline decorative motifs

The Renaissance gallery is very elegant and of beautiful proportions, worthy of note is the delicate work of the capitals and finely fluted shafts, the artist's surprising mastery over the hardness of the granite stone.
Before the century. XVI this place was occupied by the royal palaces, which were then demolished to build the cloister there.
To see in the PIP:
The tiles were placed in the XVIII century and represent scenes from the life of S. Teotónio, patron of Viseu

The History of Guarda Cathedral begins in 1199, when King Sancho I obtained permission from the Pope to transfer the seat of the bishopric from nearby Egitania (Idanha-a-Velha) to Guarda.
