It's A Small World After All

05 Sep 2025 2 146
A box of Kodak film that came with an inexpensive point and shoot 35mm camera I found. The film is made in the United States. The film is spooled in Mexico. The film is repacked in China. Boy, this film was a world traveller, for sure!

Minas Tirith

This bare tree, shining in the sunlight, (it was actually much brighter out than it looks like here), reminded me of the one in the final Lord Of The Rings movie, “The Return Of The King.” This was another camera in my collection that I didn’t think I would ever be able to use. Kodak stopped making film for it in the mid-1980s, and the special “J” battery they used is also no longer made. But I did have an old, empty cartridge that I loaded with some 120 film and managed to get it to take a picture. Without the battery, the shutter only had one speed and it was much too fast for the 400 speed film I used. The original film had an ASA rating of 150, so 400 should have been plenty enough speed, but it wasn’t. The camera really needs the battery so that it can set the right shutter speed. One thing I haven’t tried is to push some 400 speed film to 800 or 1600 and see if that works better. The negative for this image came out almost blank, it was so faint. By having to darken it up so much, it came out much too grainy. It looks like a picture from the 1800s! But I did get the camera to produce an actual image. The Old Glove Factory

14 Nov 2024 173
This building used to house the glove factory that used to be here in town. For about a month, when my family moved to Norris City back in 1974, my Mom worked at the glove factory. She did this to help bring in an income until Dad’s electric motor repair shop could get established. I don’t think the glove factory lasted past the 1970s. This disposable camera was one I bought back in 2013 and I’m finally getting around to using it. You can’t use a camera you got at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, in Springfield, Illinois, just anywhere! 3 Mercedes Benz

These Mercedes-Benz vehicles all seem to be the same year. The one in the back is even a station wagon! I’ve had this camera around 40 years, but this is the very first time I’ve gotten to use it. I used 35mm film in an old 126 cartridge. Camera: Imperial Magimatic X-15 No. 2 Film: Agfa Photo Vista Plus 400 35mm in a 126 cartridge (expired on 10/2018) Date: March 9th, 2023, 10.04 a.m. Location: Norris City, Illinois, U.S.A. The Helper

This mural is located in Marion, Illinois. They are sporting several murals all over their town and it really improves the looks of their city. This was taken with an old Kodak Instamatic camera. I reused an old 126 film cartridge and reloaded it with modern 35mm film - 35mm and 126 film are the same size, just different perforations. Camera: Kodak Instamatic 104 (Camerosity code CAOO – made in period 12/66) Lens: Plastic 43mm Meniscus Film: Agfa Photo Vista Plus 400 (expired on 10/2018 and reloaded into a 126 cartridge) Shutter Speed: 1/90 Aperture: F/11 Date: March 7th, 2023, 2.02 p.m. Location: Marion, Illinois, U.S.A. The Mole People

This underground house is just two blocks up the same street as my house. I took this shot with an old 126 Instamatic camera by loading some 35mm into an old 126 film cartridge. 8 Buses

01 Jul 2023 6 2 600
A row of school buses parked for the summer at our local grade school. I didn’t think I’d ever get to use this camera, because they haven’t made the special type of film it takes in probably 50 years. But, I noticed the shutter worked, even without batteries, so I cut down some 120 film, positioned it carefully where I thought it should be, (in total darkness, of course!), and then shot with it. For the first attempt, I’m really pleased with how it turned out. Now I can mark off another camera in my collection that I’ve used. My goal is to be able to say I’ve used every camera in my collection - all 267 of them. Taken with my hundred and twenty-sixth camera. This image is not cropped, I simply scanned it to all the edges. It turned out the same dimensions as a 35mm negative, so I suppose that’s the shape the original instant prints must have been. Jenny

A small boat not far from my neighborhood. And quite landlocked as well. The boat was named “Jenny.” Notice the "palm" trees made out of old tires. Ride The Hippo

This is a hippo statue in the middle of my little town and it’s wearing a saddle. I reloaded an old 126 film cartridge with 35mm film and shot some pictures with this camera and seven others on the same roll. Fuji Film Fujicolor Superia X-TRA 400

08 Nov 2022 2 2 210
Fuji Film Fujicolor Superia X-TRA 400 is their consumer film for average situations. Overall, it comes out nice when I shoot with it.

Rite-Aid 400 Film

07 Nov 2022 182
Rite-Aid is a chain of drug stores in the northeastern part of the United States. This is their own store brand of film. Of course, they no longer sell it - no stores do anymore, sadly. I picked up a couple expired rolls to try and the first roll I shot had really bad color shifts. I don't know how the second roll will turn out, but I know I don't want to use it for any important pictures.

Samsung Prime Color 400 Film

07 Nov 2022 197
I wasn't aware that Samsung made film until I came across this. I knew they made televisions and cameras and other electronic devices, but film? Who knew? I thought it was appropriate that the first roll of Samsung film I shot should be shot through a Samsung camera.
