The television show "Star Trek" lasted three seasons from 1966 -1969; then it was cancelled. But, there was something about the show that appealed to viewers and it just wouldn't die. About the mid-1970s, it was becoming more and more popular and there were even conventions being held for everything Star Trek. I watched the show back in the 1960s, so by the mid-1970s, even I could tell there was something special about the show, even located like I was in a small town in Southern Illinois. A local television station out of Evansville, Indiana would broadcast repeats of Star Trek every Sunday night at midnight. (Technically, Monday morning.) For me, who was still in school, it would be the last thing I enjoyed each weekend before school started again on Monday. I watched these repeats faithfully and even recorded the audio of the episodes on cassette tape and took pictures of the TV screen. This is one such picture I captured in 1977. All this attention for the show finally culminated with the big screen return of Star Trek - "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." The whole Star Trek phenomenon has become engrained in our culture. This is a screen capture from an old film noir movie from 1959, called "Guns, Girls and Gangsters." I'd like to wish everybody on Ipernity a very happy new year and I hope it turns out to be a good year for everyone.

Walter Payton, a running back for the Chicago Bears football team, was known as "Sweetness" for his moves carrying the football. This was a screen capture of my television during a game Chicago played against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For this photo, I remember that the local newspaper in my town had loaned me one of their telephoto lenses because they used a Minolta like I did. This was taken at a distance from my TV and zoomed in on just part of the screen. Back in 1997, my brother and I attended a Star Trek Convention held in Cape Girardeau, Missouri between July 25th and 27th at the Holiday Inn there. This is a screen capture from the videotape I recorded of the event. This particular sequence was taken by my brother because that's me in the open doorway of room 149. My brother and I were staying in the room to the right, room 151. But, the party was next door to us. You can't see my eyes because I've got my Wayfarers on.

I started taking pictures of the television screen back in the late 1970s of my favorite shows. Of course, Star Trek is one of my all time favorites. Using the multiple-exposure feature on my Minolta XD11, I would take multiple screenshots on one frame - kind of like my version of a Viewmaster reel. This particular episode was "The Doomsday Machine." This was at the end of the episode when Kirk and Spock were reviewing what just happened. The lab I was sending my film to to be developed always did this to the final frame of each roll. They would flash some kind of code, I suppose to identify who's film is was and then tape each roll end-to-end to be developed. This process usually ruined the last perfectly good frame on my rolls because, if you would work it right, you could get one extra shot on the roll past frame number 24. Back on April 12th, 2013, I had a serious reaction to an antibiotic I was prescribed and had to get to a hospital quickly. I was there for two days and on the second day, I had my girlfriend at the time bring one of my guitars to play because I was getting bored. About 20 years ago or so, somebody found some old film footage from 1928 of Carmi, Illinois and made it into a DVD that was sold by the local historical society. Carmi just happens to be the town I was born in! This was a view down Main Street, showing all those great old cars. If you look above the Red Spot Paints sign, you'll see they even had a Hudson-Essex automobile dealership.
