Little Egypt

16 Mar 2025 6 5 246
This is why my area of Southern Illinois is called "Little Egypt." There are several towns here that are named after real places in the Egypt, such as Cairo, Karnak, Thebes, Metropolis and Goshen, etc. There is also architectural nods in the building and decorations of places around the area - such as this doorway at the Marion, Illinois Veterans Hospital. The whole hospital is made to look like an ancient Egyptian structure on the inside. Structure

This looks like a small building at first glance, but I think it was made out of solid concrete. I have no idea what it's function must have been. There are a lot of oil wells around it, so I assume it must have been something related to the oilfield industry. Little Toy Truck

This is a Maisto 1977 Ford truck. They need to make more ordinary vehicles like this instead of more Mustangs and Corvettes. The film was expired for about 20 years, but it seems to have turned out all right. I exposed it two stops below the box speed of 400 and that probably helped a lot. Beatles '24

14 Jan 2024 346
The picture for the first month of my 2024 Beatles calendar. I've been getting the new one every year for forty years or so. I took this shot, developed the film and posted it - all in under six hours! Plus, I developed two other rolls of film during that time as well. The film was expired for about 20 years, but it seems to have been all right. Especially since I exposed it two stops below the box speed of 400. Camera: Konica Autoreflex TC No. 1 Lens: Konica Hexanon AR 50mm, f/1.7 Film: Fuji Film Superia X-TRA 400 (long expired and shot @100) Program: Manual (no battery) Aperture: F/16 Shutter Speed: “B” (bulb) 8 seconds Date: January 13th, 2024, 6.42 p.m. Location: Norris City, Illinois, U.S.A. Leaving On A Jet Plane

This was the first time this brand new Visions RS-110 camera had ever been used - it was new in the package when I bought it for about a quarter. However - the quality of it was sorely lacking and I was quite disappointed in the pictures it took. Plus, the film was expired, so that probably didn't help much. This one was of my sister and her daughter flying out of the St. Louis airport on their way to Colorado for a few days about a month and a half ago.
