Aurora Borealis

11 May 2024 4 2 211
Last night, May 10th, 2024, there had been some solar flares that were fairly large and this caused the conditions to be right for the Aurora Borealis lights to be seen as far south as my area here in Southern Illinois. These streams of light were constanly moving and shifting and looked pretty amazing. It's real rare that these lights show this far south like they did.

This shot was a long exposure at dawn, well before the sun came up. Plus, it was heavily overcast, so it looks a lot lighter than it actually was. The camera is just a cheap little plastic trashcam which has a plastic lens that isn't very good. But, I had never used this camera before, so now I can say I have. The image was converted to black and white from the expired colour film. Camera: Jazz 206 (normal setting) Lens: 27mm optical lens Film: Snappy Colour 200, (expired) Shutter Speed: “B” 30 secs.
