The Old Glove Factory
| 14 Nov 2024 |
|
This building used to house the glove factory that used to be here in town. For about a month, when my family moved to Norris City back in 1974, my Mom worked at the glove factory. She did this to help bring in an income until Dad’s electric motor repair shop could get established. I don’t think the glove factory lasted past the 1970s.
This disposable camera was one I bought back in 2013 and I’m finally getting around to using it. You can’t use a camera you got at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, in Springfield, Illinois, just anywhere!

The Balcony

The biggest house in my little town. Nobody has lived in it for forty years or so. This camera came as a freebie that was thrown in with a lens I purchased. It didn’t have the battery door anymore, so I substituted one from a Pentax K1000 and it seemed to work.
Taken with my forty-sixth camera.

Hip To Be Square
| 22 Mar 2020 |
|
|
|
The title says "Hip To Be Square." I add this because when choosing to translate comments below images, the software doesn't include the title.
I'm pretty sure this little square brick building was part of the railway complex that stood next to the railroad line that used to run through the middle of my little town.
For the Saturday Self-Challenge group, who's theme this week was "Interesting Architecture."
I think this little building is interesting due to the fact that it was designed for just one single purpose - to house the shutoff valves located inside it.

The Wakeford Place
| 21 Jan 2017 |
|
|
|
The Wakeford House was built in 1877 here in my town of Norris City, Illinois. The town itself wasn't incorporated until 1901, so I find the fact that this house is older than the town to be quite fascinating. As far as I know, it's the oldest house here.
For the Saturday Self-Challenge group, who's theme this week was history.

My House
| 30 May 2015 |
|
This is what the side of my home looked like a scant 5 years ago - I hadn't realized that it had grown up so much. Now, the rose bush you see at the bottom of the chimney has grown so tall, it stretches above the top of the roof. And a tree has grown at the left edge that I'm going to have to remove. And the rest of the space along the ground has bushes I'm going to remove because I don't like the clutter. I think there are Elephant ears to the right of the chimney and hollies or pointsettas to the left.

My Old Home
| 25 Nov 2014 |
|
|
I found out rather unexpectedly last night that last week, they bulldozed the home I used to live in. My Dad and I built this for my family back in 1976, but this picture dates from around 1978.
It's really sad to know that it's gone and somebody just tore it down instead of living in it. It was a nice house.
