My sister bought this postcard for me. She knew one of my favorite movies is Close Encounters of the Third Kind and it features this distinctive landmark prominently.

Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, The Special Ed…

This is what happens when you expose a roll of film and then tuck it away in a drawer somewhere and forget to develop it for 25 years. The colors get all weird. This was taken in 1980, at a movie theatre where Close Encounters of the Third Kind had been rereleased with the newly amended "The Special Edition" tacked onto the title and some extra footage added. I saw this movie during it's first release in 1977 and this second one as well. It's one of my all-time favorite movies. (If you couldn't have guessed by somebody sneaking a 35mm camera into a theatre to get pictures of it!) Camera: Minolta XD11 Lens: Minolta MD Rokkor-X 50mm, f/1.2 Film: Kodak 400 ASA daylight film Date: Late 1980 Location: Harrisburg, Illinois, U.S.A.

To say that I was eagerly awaiting the release of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind back in 1977 would be an understatement. I had read up on it, seen magazine articles and promos and when it came to a local theater on it's release, I went prepared. As I recall, it was a scene from the movie very close to this one that was used in the newspaper ads for the film and I wanted to recreate it for my own collection. Back then, nobody cared if you had a camera with you and since the one I used didn't have a flash, they must have assumed I couldn't take any pictures in a darkened theater. But, the screen itself provided all the light I needed for the shot. I used my trusty Kodak 35 RF rangefinder camera and was able to achieve my objective. Camera: Kodak 35 RF rangefinder (made in 1948) Lens: Kodak Anastar 50mm, f/3.5 Film: Kodak Kodacolor, 100 ASA 35mm Exposure mode: Manual (of course!) Date: 1977 Location: Harrisburg, Illinois, U.S.A.

Devil's Tower Oil Painting

I'm no painter and this was only the second oil painting I ever did, but it does show one of my favorite places from one of my favorite movies, "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind."
