This has been in our family for at least four generations.
Made in England, it originally belonged to my great grandmother, then my father's aunt, then my father, and in 2014, my father gave it to me.

Photo of a vintage photo, with a friend, at West Wellow in Hampshire, England, where my parents had a few acres and a cottage on the edge of the New Forest.
We had pigs, chickens and a cat.
A wonderful place to spend my early years, mostly with Mum and her sister. Dad worked in Southampton, which was not far to travel. It must have been on his motorbike at the time, as I don't think he had a car until mid 60s. Wearing my sun hat.
Clearly neither of us were particularly happy about being in front of a camera :-) I love this photo. The colours are pretty authentic, compared to the original photo.
Sunday challenge... ageing. This photo was taken in the 50s, so I really don't look like this any more :-) However I do have a very similar hat... see comments for a photo in January 2019

Called in for morning coffee at the oldest house in Noosa Heads, Queensland, to take this photo.
1881: A survey was made of the land adjoining the Town Reserve, Little Cove ... the Land Ranger advised that the area was definitely not suitable for selection and that the scrub was of great attraction to visitors. That was the genesis of the Noosa National Park. Eighty acres at what is now Noosa Heads were transferred to Walter Hay, the person credited with successfully finding a route from Gympie to the Noosa River, leading to the subsequent establishment of Noosa Heads.
1882: On that land Walter Hay established the ten roomed residence Bay View, which became the first boarding house at Noosa Heads. Progressively enlarged and renamed Hillcrest Guest House, the building was rebuilt to a Federation bungalow style in the 1920s. Purchased by the Anglican Church in the 1950s, it was renamed Halse Lodge, after Archbishop Halse. Substantially renovated in 1988, it is the only existing guest house remaining in Noosa Heads from the turn of the century and one of the few sites in south east Queensland operating continuously as a seaside guest house from the late nineteenth century. It is now listed on the Register of the National Estate.
(The Noosa Story recounts that in 1889 the population of Tewantin stood at 148; in 1905 there were just five houses at Noosa Heads, two of them guest houses.)
(Noosa Library Timeline)
Halse Lodge is now a popular YHA, and retains much of its colonial charm.

Seen in Tewantin, Queensland.
The Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow is a luxury car that was produced in Great Britain in various forms from 1965 to 1980...
To date, the Silver Shadow has the largest production volume of any Rolls-Royce.
The Silver Shadow was produced from 1965 to 1976, and the Silver Shadow II from 1977 to 1980...A long-wheelbase variant, some 4 inches longer to provide additional rear seat legroom, was offered in the USA from May 1969...Initially, the long-wheelbase model did not have a separate name, but in 1976, with the introduction of the Silver Shadow II, the longer car was dubbed the Silver Wraith II.

Southampton, Hampshire, England.
The iconic era of the 1920s.
The 1920s was a decade that began on January 1, 1920 and ended on December 31, 1929. It is sometimes referred to as the Roaring Twenties or the Jazz Age, when speaking about the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom. In Europe the decade is sometimes referred to as the "Golden Age Twenties" because of the economic boom following World War I.

The First WH Smith Railway Bookstall
Seeing the potential of the new technology, William Henry Smith opened his first railway bookstall on November 1st, 1848.
The first William Henry Smith was born in 1792 just two weeks before the sudden death of his father Henry Walton Smith, who only a few months earlier had established a small ‘newswalk’ or newspaper round in Berkeley Square, London. The young Smith remained in the news trade, opening a reading room in the Strand in 1821. ‘First with the news’ was his proud boast, as he created a country-wide newspaper distribution network based on the mail-coach system.
His son, William Henry II (1825-91), who became a partner in the family business in 1846 at the peak of ‘railway mania’, saw the potential of the new technology more quickly than his father. Railways offered a faster and more reliable way of sending newspapers to the farthest corners of the country...By 1860 Smith’s bookstalls were to be seen on all main lines and many secondary ones. It was a cultural revolution, as well as a commercial one...In 1905, when the rental contracts for the 2,000 Great Western and London and North Western Railways stations were up for renewal, the business was faced with steep rent increases. The company responded by opening 150 new shops in the streets leading to the stations instead, each one fitted out in the recognisable company style. The decision meant that, when some sixty years later the railway network was slashed back by Dr Beeching, WH Smith & Son was secure.
