Lake Mead NV speedboat (#0116)

Speedboat passing some part of the Las Vegas water system. I've never seen a description of what this is, but if you look at the satellite photos you'll see that it's linked to some to either the water (or sewer) system in some way.

Rancho Mirage The Rivers mall (#5165)

Even before we were in a drought I felt that this level of water use was questionable for the region. All of the ponds appear to be relatively shallow, thus it would seem feasible to convert this to rock and desert landscaping -- though they would have to change the name of the mall.

Rancho Mirage The River mall (#5162)

A slight interruption to my other postings. In the news this week in the Coachella Valley was that The River mall is having some trouble attracting customers. Here's part of what you see of the River when you pass it on CA-111, a large expanse of water serving only a scenic purpose -- in the desert. That's why I have never considered using the mall. Even before we were in a drought I felt that this type of water use was not a responsible use for the region. All of the ponds appear to be relatively shallow, thus it would seem feasible to convert this to rock and desert landscaping -- though they would have to change the name of the mall.

Castaic: Lake Hughes Rd 1479a

Castaic Lake reservoir, from Lake Hughes Road. Castaic Lake is part of the State Water Project. The white spots on the surface of the reservoir are boats, thus giving some indication of how low the reservoir is.
